Final Rangers Game at Globe Life 2019
When Globe Life Park opened, I was lucky enough, with my family, to go to Opening Night. At the beginning of the 2019 season, I made it a mission to figure out how to go to a game, and it worked out to go to one of the last 3 of the regular season against Boston. It was a perfect day that turned into a perfect night. There is a song (they played it on the movie, The Rookie) that I remember playing when I walked into that field and would play every home run. That song holds a very special place in my heart.
I watched Nolan Ryan pitch at that park (and the one before), I was at the extra innings game for the Ranger to solidify their place in the playoffs in the 90's, had Pudge walk by us when waiting to walk Hobson around the bases on "pups at the park" night, and I have memories of going to baseball games with loved ones who are no longer with us or who are no longer able to go to games with us. I was so sad to hear that Globe Life Park would be rebuilt as an indoor stadium, while trying to keep the love of the outdoor stadium intact, and then leveling the original outdoor stadium. My heart hurt with the idea that this would happen. The love within the walls of that stadium is something that cannot be replaced or duplicated. Yes, there will be a new love with new memories in the new indoor stadium, but it just won't be the same for me.
A hashtag that was happening in 2019 was #iwashere to post pics of games that you went to for that final globe life outdoor season. I bought a baseball and decided to write on it with the date, which was one year ago today! I loved getting to see the love of the game, and everything around going to a game, like cotton candy through a 5 year old's eyes. We did find out around this time last year that the park was going to be used for soccer, which I was so excited to hear, because nothing structurally is wrong with the stadium, but they felt like it was time to have an indoor stadium due to weather being a huge factor here in Texas.
I looked forward to going to a game at the new stadium in 2020, however, we have only been able to watch on tv due to covid, but I was so excited to hear that the field will be THE field for the World Series of 2020. It doesn't matter that the Rangers won't be a part of it, but just that the new park will get to shine and have it's moment in front of everyone while the American game is played to the highest level. I do look forward to going to a game, in the future, and getting to see if I get a similar feeling at the new park and what they felt like was special enough to carry over from the old park to the new one.
