I'll be there for you...
What kind of party do you throw a bestie that wants to keep it chill? FRIENDS! Mostly because there was so much surrounding the show in 2019. Netflix had announced that they would no longer be streaming the show come January 1, but then they ended up keeping it for another year. It was going to be the 25 anniversary of the first show in the fall. And I was re-watching the show, and there seemed to be so many moments that we were able to quote. I started to find things, like koozies and glasses, I knew I could paint some canvases with some iconic wording or imaging, and really take lines from the show or titles of the show to intertwine our friendship.
From the moment you walked in, I had put a balloon arch around the closet doors and added a painting of the back of the girls apartment door frame for a fun photo op. On the living room ledge, we had some pictures through the years ("The One with the Flashback"), I [heart] NY bag, found some wind up dinosaurs to race ("The One with the Cake"), and giant clown-like sunglasses ("The One with All the Thanksgiving"). Adjusted the mantel to have a NYC printed map, a lobster mit ("The One with the Prom Video" and "The One with Chicken Pox"), custom painted signs of Friends & I'll be there for you, and an actual Broadway sign! And our coffee table had scrabble & playing cards ("The One with 2 Parts" & "The One with all the Poker").
I carried the theme over to the gift table with some dinosaur planters with some candy's including Toblerone ("The One Where Ross & Rachel, You Know" & "The One with the Fake Party"), and a wooden armadillo ("The One with the Holiday Armadillo"). I had a cold drink station on our bar with all of my Friends drinking glasses and referenced all of the shows that their saying were stated ("The One Where Ross & Rachel Break Up," "The One with the Cop," and "The One with the Prom Video"), and also had a miniature Central Perk Coffee Station with a custom painted sign.
Everything was laid back, relaxed, and exactly what Melanie wanted for her big day. We ended up with a beautiful spring day and got to take advantage of it by sitting on the deck and soaking in some rays. When having a theme for a party, I don't typically go this far, however, for this party, I wanted to create our own narratives for each of the shows themes and it started conversations for all of us to talk about the memories that we had with each other & the love that we have for our friends. Since this party, there was a Friends Couch photo op that we got to take advantage of in Dallas. I have had another Friends themed party at for for a co-workers birthday. I have had a friend from college have a Friends themed baby shower. Everything from bridal/wedding showers to baby showers can be celebrated with a Friends theme.
