J'adore Dior Dallas
The moment that I heard that Dior was coming to Dallas, I immediately tried to figure out when I would go! My birthday actually landed in the time frame that exhibit was in Dallas; so why not plan my trip then? It was the one thing I asked for.
For about a month a half I was seeing images other peoples instagram posts that had already attended the exhibit, but was still super excited and even surprised. Most images were from the all white (muslin draped pieces which I didn't know until attending) and the giant archway filled with dresses.
I get very quiet when I go into exhibits. I am not sure why, maybe it is because it was always drilled into my head to be quiet in a museum, or maybe it is the respect that I have for the museum, but either way, I get quiet. I take it all in. I look at all the details. The focus to study something that is so captivating takes silence; which might be the only time that I truly focus to that extent.
Each room/section had a different theme. One of the sections had different designers who were head of the design house and showed their influence on the Dior name while also showing that the aesthetics of Christian Dior himself influenced their continued house designs. The ability for John Galliano to create something so quirky but with the overall construction of Dior. The exhibit was full of sketches, swatches, dresses and letters. The seamless transitions from one room to the next while feeling like you were walking into a completely different exhibit was amazing.
The room that stole my breath was the white wall of mannequin busts that appeared to have completed white garments on them, however, when looking closer, you could tell that the garments were made of muslin, and that they weren't completed, they were the first stage. They were the attempt at figuring out all the details before using the fabric that they would eventually be made of. There were so many details that you could see in the muslin, it was inspiring.
Christian Dior said "Individuality will always be one of the conditions of real elegance" and I have to say that though I haven't known the quote for my whole life, I have really lived by it. I have always thought in my own way, worn fashion in my own way, and lived my life in my own way. I can't wait to show you through this outlet who I am and how to be your own individual and be elegant while doing it!
