Spring Fling
Growing up, the mantel in the living room really only changed for Christmas. Since my parents moved back to Texas, my mom, Mary Beth, has been periodically changing out some of the decor and going with more of the farmhouse-esque look. She has also decided to start changing the mantel more seasonally. I thought I would show off what she had during the quarantine. We had gathered some items in January and February, prior to everything shutting down, and used some items that they already had in the house.
Seriously, the best re-opening was Home Goods after the quarantine. That seemed to be the one thing that wasn't available to shop online. I could order beauty products from Sephora & Ulta, I could run to Target for essentials, but when it came to updating or decorating the home, it just wasn't as available unless you wanted something extreme from Home Depot or Lowes.
The little bunnies, gold eggs and signs were both random Home Goods finds prior to quarantine. Wondering the aisles and finding those #homegoodfinds is always satisfying. A small change of a throw pillow can make all the difference. For those of us that have been stuck in our homes for weeks, changing a throw pillow, framing photos, a new area rug or new curtains seemed to be on everyone's list because Home Goods was PACKED. Line out the door kind of packed. Yes, I was one of those that waited in the line for about 20 minutes.
The bunny with glasses and the floral print were both from Hobby Lobby. Initially, Hobby Lobby actually was still open when everything else started to shut down. I wish I would have taken some inventory of what I had prior to them closing, because I probably could have got a lot more done during quarantine when it came to sewing. Of course, when I went to purchase some items online, they were out of stock, so everyone else had the same idea of projects during quarantine weekends.
The summer mantle should be easier to complete for my mom at my parents house. My mantle changes 2 times year; Christmas and non-Christmas, unless we are having a party at the house and I decorate for that. Maybe my mom's constant change will inspire me, but if it doesn't inspire me, it may inspire some of you!
